On 17 December 2019, the Parlement des écrivains de la Méditerranée met for its first official annual meeting in the Casa Árabe in Madrid. Writers and journalists from Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, France and Spain met, in order to draft a coalition of Northafrican authors as an "early warning system". At the center of the talks were the topics of literature as an instrument for mediation, the potential of literature and narrative framing for early crisis detection and crisis prevention, and also, the imortance of literature for the stabilisation and strengthening of the region's resilience.
